Privacy policy

Last updated: 2026-10-22

This policy explains what the TextPic browser extension and the textpic.app website do with your data. In short: TextPic does not collect, store or share any personal data.

What TextPic processes

When you start recognition, TextPic reads the image or the screen area that you chose and recognizes the text in it. This happens inside your browser, on your computer.

The image and the recognized text are not sent to us or to anyone else. The recognized text stays on the page, and in your clipboard when you copy it.

Network requests

To recognize an image on a web page, TextPic downloads the image file from the website that hosts it. This is the same request that your browser makes to show the image.

When you use a recognition language other than English or Russian for the first time, TextPic downloads its language data file (2–10 MB) from the jsDelivr CDN (cdn.jsdelivr.net). The request contains only the file name. Like any web server, jsDelivr receives your IP address.

TextPic makes no other network requests: no analytics, no telemetry, no ads.

Data stored on your device

Your recognition languages are saved in Chrome storage. If you use Chrome Sync, Chrome synchronizes them between your devices.

Downloaded language data is kept in the extension's local storage, so it is not downloaded again.

Recently recognized images are kept in memory for a few minutes, so that you can recognize them again in another language. Then they are deleted.

Permissions

TextPic uses the permissions that Chrome asks you to allow only for text recognition:

  • Access to websites: to download the original image file in full resolution and to show the text layer on the page.
  • Context menu: to add “Recognize text in image” to the right-click menu.
  • Screen capture: to take a snapshot of a tab, a window or the screen, only when you ask for it.
  • Storage: to save your recognition languages.

The textpic.app website

The website does not use cookies for tracking, analytics or ads. It uses one cookie, “lang”, to remember the language that you chose.

Like any web server, our server can keep standard access logs (IP address, time and requested page) to keep the website secure.

Sharing and selling

We do not sell, rent or share any data. We do not receive your data, so we have nothing to share.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
